  • Your filing history and receipts kept in one place

Is my company really dormant?

In broad terms, a company is dormant for accounting purposes when it had no significant accounting transactions in the year. Paying for the company’s registration or filing fees does not count against that. If money came in or went out for anything else, choose the trading service instead.

Why file a return for a company that did nothing?

Being dormant for the year does not switch off your filing duties. HMRC expects a Corporation Tax return unless it has told you otherwise, and, since HMRC’s free online filing service closed on 31 March 2026, that return has to be filed through commercial software.

That is the gap AutoTaxFiling fills. You enter the few figures a dormant company has (usually just share capital and any money owed), we put them into the right accounts, and we file.

Common questions

Do I still need an accountant?
For a dormant company or a simple trading company, you can do this yourself: we ask for your figures in plain English and check them for you. We do not give tax advice, so if your situation is complicated, ask a qualified accountant.
Which companies can use AutoTaxFiling?
UK limited companies that were dormant for the year, or that traded in a simple way and qualify as micro-entities. To qualify, a company generally needs to meet at least two of: turnover up to £1,000,000, a balance sheet total up to £500,000, and up to 10 employees. We check this for you.
What does it cost?
£10 a year for a dormant company and £25 a year for a trading micro-entity. You see your accounts and your Corporation Tax bill before you pay anything.
Do you file my accounts at Companies House too?
Not yet. This first release prepares your accounts and files your Corporation Tax return with HMRC. Companies House filing is planned for a later release, so for now you would file your accounts there separately.
Is my Corporation Tax payment included in the £10 or £25?
No. The fee covers preparing and filing. Any Corporation Tax due is paid to HMRC directly. We show you exactly how much before you file.
What if HMRC rejects my return?
We check every return against HMRC’s own rules before it is sent, so most problems are caught in front of you, in plain English, while you can still fix them. If a return is ever rejected, you can correct it and file again, and your filing history keeps a record.
Can I correct a return after I have filed?
Yes. You can start an amendment from your filing history, change the figures, and file the updated return.
Is my company’s information private?
Yes. Your company’s details and figures are visible only to you. We ask for only what is needed to prepare and file your return, and we never store card details.
When does it open?
Soon. We are finishing our HMRC testing now. Email us and you will be first to know the day it opens.
